Weaving culture
and location
This project was developed as a speculative concept to explore ideas around building on the success of Visit Alaska’s “Also Known As” campaign. I wanted to use familiar campaign visuals, but deepen the storytelling by connecting Alaska’s locations with its rich culture and history. Instead of focusing solely on stunning vistas and wildlife, I wanted to show more people and introduce indigenous names that help reveal the state’s diverse identity.
Using a refreshed visual approach (credit to Brian Adams, whose incredible photography I borrowed for concept purposes only), I explored using a collection of images that span the grand and the intimate. From breathtaking landscapes to everyday moments with people and communities. The film-like photography style creates an inviting, warm narrative—like flipping through a travel diary shared by a trusted friend.
My goal was to invite a deeper understanding of Alaska’s unique places and stories, highlighting lesser-known destinations and weaving culture and location more closely together. It’s an approach that’s both inspiring and approachable, inviting viewers to see Alaska through a more personal and meaningful lens.
